Practical Ways of Using Web 2.0 in Education

I think I am overwhelmed with so much information on Web 2.0, what it is and how it can be used in Education.
The problem is that not that many people share with others HOW EXACTLY Web 2.0 technologies can be used in or as learning environments.

The purpose of this community is to share PRACTICAL ways in which we can use Web 2.0 to learn.

If you guys have used Web 2.0 to teach or to learn in the past, please share what tool/website and how you used it.

Please create new blog posts for each application/website you share.

I'm considering creating a wiki with different areas (even school subjects or enterprise departments) in which Web 2.0 applications can be used to enhance learning experiences.

Thank you for your contribution.

I'm sure theres a Web 2.0 tool that does do both. If not, do it next year for there'll surely be a new one then. Thats the thing with Web 2.0 at the moment, it's prgressing at such an exponential rate that it's sometimes difficult to stay up to date with the latest development.

Yes, there are some good features on SlideShare for sure, but my problem is that they do no support animations. Therefore, I use authorSTREAM instead for that reason.

I like your idea for separate wiki's for subjects and departments, I think it can really progress this idea of Web 2.0 in the classroom. When are you thinking of getting that up? and how can I help? cause that's probably the best course of action right now.

Good ideas, since you've mentioned PPT, why not create groups on Slideshare.net for which memebers can only join with an invitation from you?

That way you keep your students' presentations safe from outsiders (if there is any sensitive data) and the parents can see, make comments, "favorite" the slideshows, tag, share, etc...

Hey, yea i got a few ideas for PRACTICAL uses, here they are:

- teaching students online on a sunday before a big test or exam on Monday. Teacher can answer questions, talk about subjects and give some hints. It can help students out who may have a lot of questions but can't ask because the exam is early on a Monday.

- I know in my university they do podcasts on some tricky accounting principles. It is really hard to follow because you can't see what he/she is talkin about. Adding visuals like PPT or Flash would probably help students out a lot.

- For elementary teachers, upload ppt's, word docs, excel, pictures etc. students did for classwork so their parents can see. I think most parents are busy and this would be a good way of stayin up to date with their kids

- Teachers in highschool don't use ppt as much as profs in uni but I think they can use it more often. They should post informative ppt's online with good links for research and additional learning. A lot of time students maybe have a hard time starting and researching projects, a good ppt could help get them started.

I got some more but let me know what you think.
Cheers!
